Pollinator Paradise

I’ve been a beekeeper for more than 10 years and honey bees are both an absolute joy, and absolute mystery even now. Honeybees aren’t the only pollinator on scene though, and creating habitat for native pollinators is my new passion project. Over 90 percent of pollinators are ground dwelling, and is one of the MANY reasons I chose to embrace minimal soil disturbance. The goal with my project is: Create protected habitat, sow flowering plants to provide nectar and pollen, and beautify my landscape. I’ve added a flower border to the veggie patch just for my pollinator friends (and for me too) and it’s quite popular already. I can’t decide which gives me greater joy. To see the beautiful flowers, or to see all of the visitors that are enjoying them as well. If some flowers are good, then more flowers are better right? To that end I am putting in a wildflower and grass meadow as a part of my overarching scheme and hope to have it finished next season. So very excited!
